I am a multimedia artist and artisan who paints using mostly oils, but also some works in acrylic and watercolor. I also photograph, draw and sketch with pastels, pencils, and charcoal and finally I create small sculptures with a variety of clays and some found materials of wood, metals, plastic and paper. As a craftswoman I make jewelry and small purses.
I especially like themes in nature and am also doing more in portraiture from faces to the full figure. My styles include abstract expressionism and realism. I have also been influenced by the impressionists and colorists.
My art has served not only to present beauty in all its forms, for the feel good quality it presents for me and others, but also as a coping mechanism. It has helped me survive cancer and much loss as well as sustain myself. I have also helped others with art therapy.
I also love the words of Jan Philips in "Marry your Muse" as what best defines me as an artist.
"To be an artist, it is necessary to live with your eyes wide open, to breathe in the colors of the mountain and sky, to know the sounds of leaves rustling, the smell of the snow, the texture of the bark. It is necessary to rub our hands all over life, to sing where and when we want, to take in every detail... To be an artist is to notice every beautiful and tragic thing, to cry freely, to collect experience and shape it into forms that others can share."
